Were DarkHorse. Hello!
DarkHorse by Sal's is a restaurant inspired by the DIY Punk Rock culture of the late 70's and 1980's. During that era, formulaic rules were broken, new ways of thinking emerged, intolerance became intolerable, and this alternative scene bred incredible creativity that manifested itself in art, music, business, politics, fashion and more.
Disrupters before the contemporary usage of this word existed, movement icons including Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, Tom Verlain, Johnny Thunders, Jello Biafra, The Ramones, Patti Smith, Arturo Vega, Malcom Garrett, Neville Brody, Linder Sterling, and Pete Shelley, were challenging the status quo.
From a culinary perspective, we aim to emulate our heroes by offering a chef-driven menu solely based on what we enjoy preparing. The menu doesn't follow a theme in any conventional sense and is very much designed for sharing. Don't expect an Italian restaurant, or New American gastropub. We abhor classification. If we aren't proud to serve a particular dish, you won't see it. Our beer selection is eclectic, and our cocktail list is a mix of 70's throwbacks and modern takes, made with care.
Music is part of the experience. The curated playlists include protopunk, punk, hardcore, new wave, no-wave, metal and classic and underground hip hop.
Our friends at Art & Son's helped us design a space that evokes the era and that is influenced by Andy Warhol and others. We dig it, and we hope you do too.
